October 19, 2007, Newsletter Issue #85: Choosing Between Trailer Jack Stands

1

Tip of the Week

BeaconTechnology.com Tip: Manual or electronic trailer jack stands lift a trailer to a height from which it can be coupled to or uncoupled from a rig, and support the front end during the process, and help level the trailer during storage. Capable of holding as much as 100,000 pounds of static weight, trailer jack stands also prevent upending of unconnected semi-trailers – a critical problem in the rare event that a person gets stuck underneath it, and one that must be guarded against to ensure safe working environments. The most commonly used trailer jacks are A-frame jacks on triangular mounting brackets, swivel jacks that are designed to let the jack tube swing from horizontal transit positions to vertical stationary positions, and heavy-based drop-leg jacks.
